The NAME

 After thorough study of Scripture, as well as review of teachings by other Messianic Believers, I believe His Spirit has led me to believe unequivocally that our Creator intended and desires for us, his children, to know and properly use his Holy Name, which is YHWH. Abraham knew it and Moshe (Moses) learned it from YHWH himself and taught it to the Hebrews. Moshe told Pharaoh the Name and YHWH brought the Hebrews out of Egypt so the whole world  would know His Name (Ex 9:16), and finally, the Messiah himself taught his Disciples the Father's Name (John 17) and glorified it  (John 12:28). The knowledge and the use of the name of our Elohim (God), YHWH, stretches from Genesis to Revelation! If the Messiah taught it and used it, I surely know WWYD! (What Would Yahushua Do)

Moreover, I believe we take His Name in “VAIN” when we knowingly and willingly replace his name, in proper context, with the general and meaningless title of LORD, Adonai or HaShem (The Name). Every other religion, except Christianity and Judaism, has a name for their god and THEY USE IT. The TRUE NAME of GOD, YHWH, is used almost 7000 times in Scripture, it is a true sin that the world does not know the name YHWH by the words of our testimony!

 Here I hope to explain, defend and define my convictions so that “every man will have an answer for the hope that lies within him.” Some may not agree with my conclusion but I believe His Word is conclusive on this weighty and most important question. Can anything be more important, less the salvation story of Yahushua, than the Name and proper use of the Name of our Creator? I think not.

The LORD? What is His name?

(Jer 16:19-21 KJV)  O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. {20} Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods? {21} Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The LORD.

(Exo 3:15 KJV)  And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

 They shall know my name? My name forever? What name? LORD? That is not a name but a title!

(Joel 2:32 KJV)  And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered...

 I’d like to be delivered! What name must I call upon?

Hidden, in respect to man-made Jewish traditions and twisting of Scripture, is God’s name, YHWH! It is this name he wants to be known throughout the earth; honored, respected and cherished. Although it appears almost 7000 times in the TaNaKH (Old[er] Testament), sadly very few know this name, let alone use it.

In a twisted, illogical irony, those "Christians" and "Messianics" who refuse to use the TRUE NAME of the Father for one reason or another have no problem with proclaiming the word, "HALLELUJAH!"

Hallelujah: What does it mean?

Hallelu = “be praised”

Yah = common poetic short for Yahweh (YHWH).

HalleluYAH = Praise be to Yahweh!

Sadly, the world has glibly thrown around this word, Hallelujah, and made it into a secular expression that makes folly of western Christian culture. This word has the TRUE NAME of Yahweh within it; be VERY CAREFUL how you use this word in the future. It is not a word to be used for humor as, in ignorance, I once used to do. Equally as bad, His name is used for an internet site (yahoo.com) where users wallow in pornography, piracy, occultism and all forms of sin detestable to Yahweh! The Babylonians called one who worshipped Yahweh, a YAHOO. The fallen one is crafty as he seduces the world through ignorance...

TRADITION-FREE VERSION:

(Ezek 39:25 TFV) Therefore thus saith YHWH Elohim; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name;

What about the Father's name in the New Testament? Is it mentioned there?

(John 12:28 KJV) Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

(John 17:6 KJV) I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

(John 17:26 KJV) And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

(John 17:11 NIV) I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name--the name you gave me--so that they may be one as we are one.

(Rev 14:1 KJV) And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.

Glorify, manifested and declared? Although not specifically mentioned, mainly because the NT is in Greek and the translators used “kurios” (LORD), the KNOWLEDGE and USE of the Father's Name is clearly in the context of Scripture as John and Revelation shows us. The Father's name is used all through the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. So why has the "Christian" church stopped using it?

IGNORANCE and TRADITIONS!!!

Even the brief, cursory Scriptural evidence provided so far leaves little room for doubt about the USE and KNOWLEDGE of His Name, YHWH. He is JEALOUS for His Holy Name! In these days, He is making His Name known to those who seek Him. (Jer. 16:21) We must KNOW IT and USE IT.

Ok, that being sure, how do we PRONOUNCE YHWH?

Yahweh, Yahueh, Yehovah or Jehovah?

How do you say “The Name?”

Tragically, because of disobedience of Torah and the man-made tradition of hiding and not pronouncing the name YHWH, the correct pronunciation has become elusive. Yahweh himself has promised us that His Name will remain FOREVER, yet most of the Jewish and Christian world has replaced his name with meaningless titles.  It is truly a sin; as every other religion has a name and pronunciation for their god except the Jews and the Christians, completely CONTRARY to Scripture.

WARS Book 5, Chapter 5 by Josephus

A mitre (cap) also of fine linen encompassed his head, which was tied by a blue ribbon, about which there was another golden crown, in which was engraven the sacred name [of God]: it consists of four vowels. However, the high priest did not wear these garments at other times, but a more plain habit; he only did it when he went into the most sacred part of the temple, which he did but once in a year, on that day when our custom is for all of us to keep a fast to God. (Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement)

 Josephus, the Temple-era Jewish historian, recorded that the High Priest of the Temple had four (4) vowels on his head covering. It equates with the Greek “ιάοΰε” and the English vowels “a,e,i,o,u.” The four vowels, I-A-U-E, are considered by the majority of the scholars as able to be sounded out as, ‘EE‑AH‑OO‑EH’, or ‘YAH-OO-EH’. Most likely the most accurate pronunciation is "YAH-u-eh" or, for a more fluid pronunciation, Yahweh. I think Yehovah is also a valid assumption but may err into consonants, not vowels. Both are the most common pronunciations of the Holy Name YHWH and are immeasurably better than LORD, HaShem or Adonai.

YHWH’s name in Vain?

TRADITION-FREE VERSION:

(Exo 20:7 TFV)  Thou shalt not take the name of YHWH thy Elohim in vain; for YHWH will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

vain, adj.,

     without real significance, value, or importance; baseless or worthless

To use the name of YHWH in vain would be to make it “without real significance, value, or importance; baseless and worthless.” When we replace the written TRUE Name of our Creator YHWH with LORD, Adonai or Ha Shem we take YHWH’s name in vain and break his Torah commandments. YHWH put his name in the TaNaKH for a reason! According to Scripture and Yahweh's own words we sin when we do not use His name when context calls for it.

We are CURSED when we do not use YHWH!

TRADITION-FREE VERSION:

(Mal 2:1-2 TFV) And now, O ye priests [through the Messiah, this is US!], this commandment is for you. {2} If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith YHWH of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.

If YHWH is Elohim (God), we need to keep His commandments, stop making His name vain, and get cleaned up from our filthy paganism!

(1 Tim 1:4 KJV)  Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

Fables are Jewish traditions created by men that are not in the TaNaKH.

(Deut 12:32 KJV)  What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

Before Captivity:

(Jer 12:16-17 KJV)  And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, The LORD liveth; as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people. {17} But if they will not obey, I will utterly pluck up and destroy that nation, saith the LORD.

• They taught to swear by Ba‘al, which in Hebrew means “lord.”
• YHWH wants them to learn His ways (TORAH) and swear by His name, YHWH.
• Their refusal to swear by the name YHWH and follow Torah was the reason for the destruction of the Temple and their captivity for @ 1900 years. Yahweh is serious about His Name!

Ba·al, n., pl.

1.  any of numerous local deities among the ancient Semitic peoples, typifying the productive forces of nature and worshiped with much sensuality.

The Jewish religious leaders created man-made laws to protect “HaShem (The Name)” by using the replacement name Ba‘al (Lord, Master, Adonai). In proper context, to replace YHWH with Ba‘al (Lord, Master, Adonai) is a willful neglect of a commandment and a grievous transgression of Torah, Elohim’s Law.

Elijah, the prophet of YHWH and the Prophets of the Lord (Ba‘al)

TRADITION-FREE VERSION:

(1 Kings 18:22-40 TFV)  Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of YHWH; but the Lord's (Baal's) prophets are four hundred and fifty men… And call ye on the name of your elohim, and I will call on the name of YHWH: and the Elohim that answereth by fire, let him be Elohim. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken. {25} And Elijah said unto the prophets of the Lord (Baal)… Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your elohims, but put no fire under. {26} And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of the Lord (Baal) from morning even until noon, saying, O Lord (Baal), hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered… {30} And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of YHWH that was broken down. {31} And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of YHWH came, saying, Israel shall be thy name: {32} And with the stones he built an altar in the name of YHWH… {36} And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, YHWH Elohim of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art Elohim in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. {37} Hear me, O YHWH, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the YHWH Elohim, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. {38} Then the fire of YHWH fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. {39} And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, YHWH, he is the Elohim; YHWH, he is the Elohim. {40} And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of the Lord (Baal); let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.

In that day the Prophets of the Lord (Baal), servants of Ahab and Jezebel, preached an indistinct prosperity gospel about an indistinct God who had indistinct requirements of them. The people “thought” they were worshipping the God who brought them out of Egypt but they were really worshipping a god who is nothing and did nothing. Such can be said of the modern, "institutional" Christian Church!

Declare YHWH throughout all the earth!

 (Exo 9:16 KJV)  And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to show in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.

Declare what name? LORD? No, His name, YHWH!

Can the Father be any more clear?

Aaronic Blessing

TRADITION-FREE VERSION:

(Num 6:22-27 TFV)  And YHWH spake unto Moses, saying, {23} Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons (the Priesthood), saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them, {24} YHWH bless thee, and keep thee: {25} YHWH make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: {26} YHWH lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. {27} And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.

The Aaronic Blessing and YHWH's name found on a silver scroll dated 600BC, even before the Dead Sea Scrolls!!! <See the article here>

Those verses contain what is called the “Aaronic Blessing.” It is the blessing YHWH himself told Moses to give to Aaron, the High Priest to use when blessing the people. This blessing also holds a PROMISE! If we will put HIS NAME, YHWH, not a worthless title of LORD, upon the people, YHWH himself will BLESS THEM.

Doesn’t that sound like a blessing you want and need?!?

If you are using the name of LORD, you are NOT going to get the full blessing promised in Numbers 6:27 as you are calling upon the worthless name of Ba‘al. That name didn’t work in Elijah’s time and it still won’t work today! 

I believe the priestly order of Aaron is still in disarray today because they refuse to abandon man-made traditions and bless with the name of YHWH, activating the curse of Malachi 2:1~2 upon them.

You want true blessings in your life and within your family? Fathers (or Head of Household), start blessing your wife and children every Shabbat with the blessing given to Aaron, using the TRUE NAME!!! I try to bless my wife and daughter every day, putting Yahweh's name upon them. This PROMISE is priceless, start today!

What is the name of Yahweh's SON?

The short form of the Heavenly Father’s Name, ;(IA or YAH) was due to the Aramaic influence, and that the intermediate form or Trigrammaton, (IAU or YAHU), was the older, Hebrew shortened form of the Heavenly Father’s Name, (IAUE or YAHUEH). – So due to the Aramaic influence, the Messiah’s Name was shortened up from IAUSHUA (Yâhuwshú`a) to IASHUA (Yahushua), and later, to prevent the pronunciation of the Father’s Name, it was changed to Yeshua !!

(John 17:11 NIV) I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name--the name you gave me--so that they may be one as we are one.

The Jewish religious leaders, in order to disguise the Heavenly Father’s Name, had changed the sound of the ‘Hey’ (which was an ‘ah’ sound) to ‘ay’ or short ‘e’ as in ebb, thus taking out the Heavenly Father’s Name, and making it simply ‘Savior’. So, the name Yeshua, or the Greek equivalent, Iesous, does not have the Heavenly Father’s Name in it at all! In fact, if you break down Iesous (Jesus) into it’s components, it means ‘The saving Zeus!’

Even worse, if some scholars are right, is that there exists evidence that the 1st and 2nd century Jewish religious leaders conspired to degrade the Messiah's name by removing the Father's name from it and creating an acronym of it, this being, "Yeshu," which eventually became "Yeshua." YESHU is an acronym of "Yemach Shmo u'Zikro," which means in Hebrew, "may his name be blotted out (of the Book of Life)." There is much weight to this theory and it is why I choose not to use Yeshua, except for evangelistic purposes, just as I do with the name "Jesus."

Did Yahushua (Jesus) use the Holy Name of YHWH?

(John 17:6 KJV) I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

(John 17:26 KJV) And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

Manifested? To make the unknown known. Declared? To announce or pronounce. Do you see it?

And a verse of specific importance...

(Mat 23:39 KJV)  For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord (kurios).

The Greek has Yahushua saying “kurios,” which is correctly translated “Lord.” But did he really say “Lord?”

Yahushua, when he said these words was vehemently rebuking the Priests and Scribes for being hypocrites and a brood of vipers. For a whole chapter Yahushua let them have both barrels and then some. This was His strongest rebuke ever recorded in the Gospels, and after all that, the last words Yahushua said to them, the finale of his rebuke, were these words of David from Psalms.

(Psa 118:26 KJV)  Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD…

LORD? Not likely! Yahushua IS what is written, SAID what is written and DID what is written! Yahushua used the True Name of YHWH, His Father, as correctly written in the Psalms, in his final rebuke to the Temple hypocrites, not LORD.

Yahushua told them, the Priests and Scribes of the Temple, that they would not see him in the Temple again until THEY learn to say the Holy Name of YHWH! This was a direct rebuke of their man-made laws and traditions that HID the name of their Elohim, YHWH, from the people and the world.

Even today we continue with Jewish, man-made traditions as we HIDE the Holy Name of YHWH behind the indistinct title, LORD / Adonai / Ha Shem.

Even our Messianic brethren error into man-made traditions and/or faulty logic! Rabbi Monte Judah, in his excellent teaching on the "Greater Exodus," used the name "ADONAI" when the clear context of the teaching specifically called for the use of the TRUE NAME, YHWH. If Moshe (Moses) truly used the name ADONAI before Pharaoh of Egypt, then it can be no wonder that Pharaoh and his religious wise men had never heard of such a God, as EVERY god is an ADONAI (Lord)!

I love Monte and have lots of his teachings, but that willful neglect to NOT use YHWH when it was clearly in righteous context still upsets me. At the very least he could have just used the pronunciation of the Hebrew letters, "YOD-HEY-VAV-HEY." His arguments on why he does not use the name DOESN'T CUT IT and smells of tradition, and one day I believe he will find out it doesn't cut it with the Father either. To be a teacher of Torah, who doesn't use the name YHWH when called for, who replaces "Elohim-breathed" Scripture for another word, is a dangerous position to be in...

[As I update this teaching (20-JAN-06) while listening to Monte on Shabbat via the internet webcast, he again, reading from Exodus, replaced the name Yahweh with the meaningless title, LORD. <bummed>]

Rav Moshe of YATI resoundingly rebukes teachers like Monte in his updated "Lame Name Excuse."

So, if we want Yahushua to return and establish His kingdom, we had best abandon man’s satanic traditions and begin to use the name of our Creator, YHWH and the Messiah's correct Hebrew name, Yâhuwshú`a / Yahushua. For there is SALVATION in NO OTHER NAME!

Yahushua often broke man-made religious laws to challenge Sadducee/Pharisee authority but he always kept, obeyed and encouraged TORAH. The name YHWH is written in Torah almost 7000 times...

Yahushua in the Order of Melchizedek

(Heb 5:6 NIV)  And he says in another place, "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."

(Heb 6:20 NIV)  where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

(Heb 7:11 NIV)  If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the law was given to the people), why was there still need for another priest to come--one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron?

TRADITION-FREE VERSION:

(Heb 7:21 TFV)  but he became a priest with an oath when Elohim said to him: "YHWH has sworn and will not change his mind: 'You are a priest forever.'"

Yahushua was not born under the tribe of Levi (Priests) but JUDAH, the Melech-Tzaddic, the Righteous King (Melech = KING / Tzaddic = RIGHTEOUS).

• Melech-Tzaddic preceded and superceded the tribe of Levi
• Became High Priest FOREVER
• Authority to anoint and ordain any "Righteous Servant" to act under His authority by the power of His name.

Jesus -vs- Yahushua

 In comparing the Hebrew messiah, Yahushua (YAHushua) with the Hellenized Christ, Jesus we come up with the following findings (quoted from various sources):

1. YAHushua came in and has His Father’s Name (YAHweh) in His Name fulfilling the following Scriptures: Deut 18:19; John 5:43; 17:11,12; Heb. 1:4,5; Phil 2:9.

1a. Jesus did not come in the Heavenly Father’s Name, unless you consider the Greek God Zeus to be the Heavenly Father! Jesus comes from the Greek, Iesous/Ieusus. Ieu-sus broken down is Ieu (Babylon God of healing) and Sus ((Greek suffix for the chief god of the Greeks, Zeus), and means, ‘The healing Zeus’!

2. Yahushua in Hebrew means ‘Salvation of Yah’

2a. Jesus does not – Even if it is considered to come from the Hebrew Yeshua, it would only mean Savior, not Savior of Yah, because it doesn’t have the Father’s Name in it. With the subtle use of ‘vowel dissimulation’ the True Name of the Messiah, Yahushua, was replaced with the name that hid IAUE’S Name, namely, Yeshua. “With this use of ‘vowel dissimulation’ only a slight change occurs, but this slight change removes the Father’s Name, so it would not be pronounced and therefore blasphemed according to the erroneous and INCORRECT Jewish interpretation of the Third Commandment.

3.Yahushua fulfilled (completed, established) the Law and the Prophets, and kept the Commandments. He said not to even think that He came to abolish or do away with the Law or the Prophets!

3a.Jesus as preached in most ‘Christian Churches’ does this very thing that Yahushua stated, ‘Do not even think’, in that they preach that the Law ended or was done away with at the cross, which they apply especially to the Sabbath and YHWH's feasts.

4. Yahushua taught, and upheld His Father’s Words and Commandments as was prophesied in Deut 18:18-20 (Acts 3:20-23) where His Father stated He would do so in His Name. Yahushua verified He did so in the book of John in no less than 12 places. John 3:34; 7:16; 8:28; 8:38,40,55; 12:49:50; 14:10,24,31; 17:8. In John 15:10 He states that He obeyed His Father’s Commandments, and we are to obey His, which are also His Father’s!! An finally in John 17:17 Yahushua prays that YHWH will "sanctify them by the truth; YOUR WORD (Torah) is truth."

4a. The churches that preach ‘in the name of Jesus’ do not keep His Father’s Name, Word or Commandments. They instead keep the traditions handed down from the Catholic Church, which adopted the Pagan customs, traditions, ‘Holy days’, and names they incorporated into ‘Christianity’ to bring in the masses of the peoples into the ‘Church’!

5. Yahushua kept the Sabbath in accordance with the Fourth Commandment –Luke 4:16.

5a. Most Churches preaching Jesus keep Sunday, the day of the Sun God, which they inherited from the pagan masses of people brought into the Church. There is NO AUTHORITY in Scripture that justifies a change in Sabbath day to "honor His resurrection."

6..

6a. Churches preaching Jesus preach this was a ceremonial Law which was done away with at the cross, thus they continue in the pagan custom of eating pork, which YHWH calls an abomination in Isa 65:4; and 65:17.

7. Yahushua was born most likely on Tishri 15, during the time of the Feast of Sukkot (Tabernacles) according to Scripture records, not on Dec 25 which coincides with the pagan feasts of Saturnalia or the birth of the unconquered sun (Natalis invicti).

7a.Jesus birthday is celebrated on this ancient traditional birthday of the birth of the Sun. ‘Jesus Christ’ at the time that ‘Christmas’ was brought into the Church, was assimilated to the sun, as the true Sun, Christ Helios. It was only natural to consider the birth of the Sun as Christ’s birth day also!

8. The Messiah who taught, obeyed, and upheld the Heavenly Father’s Commandments and came in His Father’s Name has to be the True Messiah – Which Yahushua did.

8a.Any Messiah or Christ who teaches that the Heavenly Father’s Laws, or Commandments are done away with, no matter how it is justified, and does not have the Father’s Name in him, can not be the True Messiah, and therefore must be the Anti-Messiah! The Jesus preached by the Churches of today seems to fit this description! I believe it is PURE GRACE upon their IGNORANCE that keeps them within the Body of Messiah today... Those who now know better, reject the truth and continue in pagan traditions have NO GRACE applied...

Yahushua teaches us the proper respect due the name of YHWH

(Mat 6:9 KJV)  After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

(Luke 11:2 KJV)  And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

Interestingly, Yahushua uses a very intimate form of address to our Creator, that being “Abba Father.” It is an address that a close son would use as he sits close to his father’s side. It is very personal and intimate, an even closer position than one who would just use His proper name, such as a servant, showing us our position in Elohim’s eyes.

Yahushua then gives glory and honor to His name. This tells us, in my opinion, that we should not misuse His name, such as making it too common or part of inappropriate speech. It is a name to be hallowed but not forgotten or seldom used! The True Name, YHWH, is to be used when reading Scripture, when voicing prayers, when giving our testimony of salvation, when worshipping and singing His praises and when anyone wants to know what Elohim (God) we serve, no matter where we may be.
