Guns & Self Defense?
What does the Bible say about gun ownership and
self defense? What about resisting governmental tyranny? Were the American
Christian Revolutionaries who overthrew King George and the English Crown within
their Scriptural rights? Didn't Yahushua say, "...give to Caesar what is Caesars,
give to Elohim (God) what is Elohim's?" Why did Yahushua tell his disciples that
from now on they should take their bag and cloak and if they didn't own a sword
that they should sell their cloak and buy one? What happened to turn the other
cheek?
These questions and many more I will attempt to answer here as time permits.
I think it is a very timely subject as we approach the possible "last days" and
the rise of an anti-Messiah world government.
Like a muddied spring or a
polluted well is a righteous man who gives way to the wicked. -Prov 25:26
For a short answer, I believe that Christians have a DUTY to self
defense and of the defense and protection of their family and the defenseless. It is a
dishonorable man who allows his family to be violated, hurt or killed
without every effort of resistance! I believe that Yahushua was
telling his Disciples that in the days after his death and resurrection they may
have to defend themselves and their lives (the recent 2007 Church shootings in
Colorado, stopped cold by an ARMED member of the Church, is a great example). How we do that is secondary. In Yahushua's day,
a Roman short sword, considered a personal weapon, not a weapon of war, would be
equal to a modern-day hand gun, shotgun or rifle.
It is also clear that the Christian founders of America recognized the "SELF
EVIDENT" Biblical Right of self-defense and the ability to resist tyranny by
including such language in the SECOND most important Amendment, this being the
Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights. In their eyes, a citizen was responsible
to possess equal armament and accoutrement to a soldier in the "Standing Army."
By today's standard, this could easily include a semi-auto, military-style rifle
such as an Colt AR-15 or AK-47, personal military-style accoutrement and several
hundred rounds of ammo. The Second Amendment is not about deer hunting or target
shooting!
As for resistance to governmental tyranny, I am still seeking answers from
Yahushua on this in His Word. I am torn between the noble deeds of our Christian
founders that established this FREE country we hold so dear and with the fact
that we are only AMBASSADORS here. Our true home is in New Jerusalem, then
Heaven, therefore we are not really citizens of any worldly country. Yet
Statehood and Citizenship are key elements within the TaNaKH and YHWH Elohim is
a Elohim who WARS with His enemies. In fact, as many "dovish" Christians
conveniently overlook, their Savior and Messiah Yahushua will be returning equipped for WAR! He
will war with the enemies of Elohim in Israel so fiercely that the blood of His
enemies will be in huge pools on the ground and splattered upon Him. For
Yahushua is the same in the TaNaKH as he is in the B'rit Hadashah (New[er] Testament), He has not changed.
Did I peak your interest or challenge your doctrine? Maybe I just made you
angry that one could be so deceived. Either way, Scripture speaks for itself.
"Institutional (pagan) Christianity" has a long list of unbiblical doctrines and
the twisting of the "Sermon on the Mount" is just one of them. Look for more as
time permits...
